Acorns have been part of human diets across cultures for centuries. Today, they are re-emerging as a relevant food resource — nutritionally rich, ecologically aligned with Mediterranean systems, and with largely untapped economic potential.
From September 25–27, the Freixo do Meio Montado hosts the Acorn Academy, an intensive workshop offering a practical perspective on the current state of the art of acorn use for human consumption. Over three days, participants will engage directly with the landscape, processes, and techniques — from ecosystem management to harvesting, processing, and culinary application.
This programme is grounded in more than two decades of on-the-ground work, combining technical knowledge with hands-on experience. It is designed for those interested in exploring the role of acorns within sustainable food systems and regenerative practices.
The workshop is primarily conducted in English, with flexibility for Portuguese or Spanish depending on the group.
Limited to 15 participants.
