“Barn without grain, people without bread.” That’s how we found Freixo do Meio. The land was depleted, and the knowledge was lost. Wheat was the only cereal that people still knew how to cultivate here, but the soil was no longer productive.
Since then, we haven’t stopped working on creating soil to one day bring this essential piece back into the Montado mosaic.
For now, lupine is the legume that reigns at Freixo do Meio.
Our mission is to build a community around Herdade Freixo do Meio that is democratic, inclusive, transparent, autonomous, and resilient, that achieves a constantly improving relationship with natural resources, and that encourages personal development.
