THE MONTADO
The Montado is one of the oldest and richest living models of agroforestry in our planet. It was this form of cooperation between man and nature that inspired us and made us adopt it at the beginning of the 1990’s, as a way to obtain food and, at the same time, to regenerate the ecosystem.

The two main food families we obtain from the Montado are acorn products and meat from several domesticated species. However, foods like honey, mushrooms, wild plants, and game meat have been gaining ground through their demand.

Our mission is to build a community around Herdade Freixo do Meio that is democratic, inclusive, transparent, autonomous, and resilient, that achieves a constantly improving relationship with natural resources, and that encourages personal development.
