The cultivation of vineyards was eliminated from the Montado, like many other essential elements of this mosaic, over the past century.
In 2008, we planted 3 hectares of K-line vineyards with Portuguese red grape varieties near the estate. Ten years later, we decided to establish a 12-hectare agroforestry system focused on vineyards intercropped with fig and olive trees. We also manage 1 hectare of vineyards at Fazenda dos Ramos in Montemor.
From these living ecosystems, in addition to Mandala (red wine), we produce grape juice (must) and dried vine leaves for the cosmetics company Weleda.
Our mission is to build a community around Herdade Freixo do Meio that is democratic, inclusive, transparent, autonomous, and resilient, that achieves a constantly improving relationship with natural resources, and that encourages personal development.
